With the end of July just around the corner, Summer is passing quickly by. With August comes thoughts of going back to school and getting ready for the next academic year. You see it now in all the advertising and stores, Back to School will be a theme for the next month everywhere you look!

A great way to show appreciation for their time and to get and give valuable input into their leadership is to get together for a meal once a quarter. Plan a breakfast or lunch and bring all the group leaders together to share tips, concerns and to pray for the small groups as a team. It will help connect them and could give you important insight in to what is happening out in the field.

The Feast of the Transfiguration, on August 6th, is an annual celebration observed by Catholic, Anglican, and some Protestant ministries in Western Christianity. It commemorates what many consider to be the highest point of Jesus’ earthly life, when he was “transfigured” by a brilliant white light at the top of a mountain and proclaimed to be the well-loved Son of God from a heavenly voice.

The Origins of the Feast
The Feast of the Transfiguration is held to have been founded by Saint Gregory the Illuminator, some time in the early third century, AD. It is said that the Feast took the place of an earlier pagan ritual known as “roseflame”, as Christ’s transfiguration was also similar to a flaming rose. The Feast was relatively slow to be adopted by the majority of churches, though most took up the practice by the 15th century.
