Happy Memorial Day from Sharefaith

The team at Sharefaith would like to wish you a happy Memorial Day. Memorial Day is about gratitude for those who have defended our nation’s freedom. It is also about praising God for the freedom we have–and remembering the freedom from sin we have, because of Jesus Christ.

The Departure Syndrome plagues Christendom. The Departure Syndrome ruins churches, derails movements, sparks compromise, initiates heresy, tears down upright lifestyles, and damns people eternally. The Departure Syndrome takes place when people depart from the truth of the Bible. It can happen slowly—even imperceptibly—but it does happen. It may not happen flagrantly, but can happen neglectfully—but it does happen. When a departure occurs, failure results. Feeling replaces substance. Hunch replaces codified information. Emotion replaces truth. Personal cogitation replaces Divine revelation. What this calls for is staying true to the Word in an ever-changing world. Here’s how to do it.

Pastors, as human beings, could use some encouragement. When you think about it, most pastors have a tough job. While every job has its own share of difficulties and challenges, the pastor’s job often carries greater weight than many others. After all, God has commissioned pastors with the responsibility for spiritual oversight. That’s a tall order. What can you do to encourage your pastor?

Is the church in need of a new reformation? Undeniably, yes. Rife with materialism, sliding toward compromise, and embroiled in selfishness and petty disputes, the Christian church needs a jarring reformation. True reformation is only from God. We must look into his Word to understand what He is like. We must begin thinking like the early church.

Beware. This article is not intended to be unloving or harsh, but it does level some serious charges against an admittedly stereotypical American Christianity.

There’s a little word game surrounding “church” that often presents a problem. The problem has to do with the fact that “church” is more than a building. It is, in fact, a local body of believers. But the church is also a universal entity, comprising more than just local believers, but believers from all nations and past ages, too. When someone says, “I’m going to go to church,” I can figure out what meaning they mean. What concerns me is that the “church” word game sometimes messes with people’s lives, too.

When you get right down to it, what is the Internet? In its raw, unadorned, plain-and-simple, purpose-defined essence, what is it?  No, it’s not the Antichrist, a modern-day bogeyman, or the Orwellian Big Brother. What is it? At the risk of oversimplification, the Internet is a means of communication. Now, admitting that Jesus’ Great Command—to make disciples—is applicable to all Christians, how does this command apply to our activity on the Internet, this amazing means of communication?

Worship leaders are going hi-tech. If you are a worship leader, it’s not necessary to have an iPod Touch, iPhone, or iPad. But if you do, here are a few app suggestions to take it to the next level.

Introducing the topic of “worship music” in a group of Christians is kind of like lighting a match in a propane plant. Things can get hot and damaging real fast. The article you’re about to read (if you choose to) isn’t a one-sided rant on the issue. It’s not an attempt to tell you how to worship. It’s a suggestion for how not to worship. But first…for some (satirical) comic relief, here’s a video to watch…

It can be discouraging. Your weekly church offerings are about the same amount as your childhood piggy bank savings. Maybe you’re in a situation where the building payment takes away 90% of your income. It could be that you simply have a small church, paltry offerings, and have had to cut everything but the light bill to save on costs. Money problems can be pretty discouraging.
