If you’re involved in church media, you probably know what it’s like to spend time working on a great design for a PowerPoint sermon, a worship background, or a church bulletin cover. At Sharefaith, it’s what we do all the time, and something we do very well. Much of the design savvy behind our PowerPoint sermons are from Josh Feit, a professional graphic designer. Josh is first and foremost a Christian, and secondly is a designer. Each of the PowerPoint sermon templates he designs are packed with meaning. We had a conversation with Josh to pick his brain about church PowerPoint sermons, and extract some tips for you as a pastor, media director, or church volunteer. I think you’ll find that his advice is spot-on, powerful, relevant, and game-changing. Read and learn.

Are you an evangelical? Before you answer that question, maybe we need to define what exactly an evangelical is. Is it synonymous with Christianity? Conservative Christianity? American Christianity? Protestant Christianity? Clueless Christianity? In a day of anything-goes evangelicalism a cadre of younger evangelicals has put their heads together to attempt to bring some degree of clarity to the confusion surrounding engimatic evangelicalism. Following is a review of the book, Don’t Call It a Comeback.

We don’t usually think of Valentine’s Day as an explicitly Christian holiday. Other major holidays have obvious Christian origins: Christmas (Christ’s incarnation) and Easter (Christ’s resurrection), sure, but Valentine’s Day? It’s true that Valentine’s Day is not connected with an event in the life of our Lord like Christmas and Easter are, but Valentine’s Day does have some intriguing Christian roots. Along with most holidays, Valentine’s Day has suffered from its share of commercialization and confusion, yet the poignant story of the original Valentine’s Day is worth remembering.

Are you a Tweeting pastor or church leader? If you’re anything like me, you may have joined Twitter once upon a time just because it was all the rage, and after sending one or two test Tweets, realized it wasn’t for you and quickly found a different techno hobby. I didn’t start using Twitter aggressively until just a year or so ago. Now, I have a small following and I follow more people than I can possibly keep up with. I even tweet three our four times a day. Recently, I did a little experiment on Twitter, and I want to tell you about some things I discovered.

One of my seminary profs recently told me a story. He met up with an old friend who recently became the pastor of a certain church. “Oh?” the seminary professor asked his friend, “What’s the name of the church?” “It’s such-and-such Church,” the friend responded. Being a Hebrew linguist, the seminary professor said, “Did you know that your church name means ‘House of Iniquity’ in Hebrew?” Obviously the pastor didn’t know that. Neither would most people. Nonetheless, the pastor returned to his church, called a business meeting, and promptly changed the church name. Thus, the “House of Iniquity Church” moniker was replaced with something more innocuous. Continue reading “What Should I Call My Church? Best Practices for Naming Your Church” »

Church leadership is important. Incredibly important. It only follows that church leadership meetings—whether it be the meetings of elders, church staff, deacons, or committees—are also highly important. There is no formula, code, or secret for holding amazing church leadership meetings. The success of a meeting, a leadership team, or a church is dependent upon God. There are, of course, common sense measures we can take as we conduct our church leadership meetings. So here, in no particular order are ten things you can do to have the best church leadership meeting.

Sharefaith has just released our newest video, a Valentine’s Day video exploring the meaning of real love. Real love isn’t always pretty, romantic, or pleasant. As this new Valentine’s Day video explains, real love means sacrifice. In some cases, it means death. Valentine’s Day, a holiday which is celebrated in memory of the Christian martyr St. Valentine, should cause us to realize that true love—love for Jesus—may mean martyrdom or persecution. In the Valentine Day Movie, you will see images of believers who are suffering for their love for Jesus. You will hear the stories of their strong faith and their courageous death—strengthened by Christ’s love for them. This Valentine’s Day video will communicate what true love is all about. That’s the kind of message that we need to be reminded of this Valentine’s Day.
You can make this Valentine’s Day memorable by using creative and professional media. Sharefaith has the largest collection of Christian media resources for Valentine’s Day. If you are not yet a member, you can sign up for a reduced rate.
