I used to be skeptical of small groups. I thought it was a bit too faddish, touchy-feely, and created Christian social clubs instead of fostering true discipleship. Maybe some small groups are guilty of these charges. However, on the whole, small groups are a valuable means of helping people in the church.

I’m not the kind of person who typically rants against the evils of technology, Facebook, and social media. Technology, Facebook, and social media aren’t inherently evil. I love technology. I use Facebook. I tweet. I use Facetime on my iPhone. I make video calls on Skype. I send text messages. I use Yahoo chat. I use Google chat. If there’s an electronic medium of communication, chances are I’m using it or have used it. So, let’s just clear the virtual airwaves here. This is not a rant.

The word “philosophy” isn’t all that exciting. To me, it connotes the arduous reading that I had to plow through in my college senior-level class, “Contemporary Philosophy.” As we all know, however, “philosophy” is not just about something Kant wrote or Descarte thought about. Philosophy is the whole reason behind what we do and why we do it. Would you say that something that basic is pretty important?
